Optimize social media images — they are paramount! This up to date Cheat Sheet, assembled by Constant Contact, is very handy for the ideal dimensions for everything graphic you might add on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube.

Twitter reports that Tweets that contain images receive a whopping 35% more engagement than those without. Facebook’s data shows an increase of 100% engagement for posts that contain images. That’s why it’s worthwhile to make sure your images are optimized for each social media channel!

Social Media Works: Little Guys Make a Big Impact

Social Media Marketing is not the first to enable little guys to look big. In olden days, I worked for (and eventually launched) computer magazines, back when laptop computers could crush your lap. In that highly competitive world of computer magazines, like PC Magazine, PC World, and my Mobile Office, we attended every major trade show. No show was more important than Comdex, which brought up to 220,000 executives to fight over 12 taxis in Las Vegas.

Monday Morning Comdex  One thing I noticed was that trade shows  were the great level playing ground. A 5 person start-up could look as significant as Microsoft. How? By talking their angel investors into springing for an enormous 2 story booth at the show, complete with lights, demos, and music.

Today, Social Media can have the same impact. Instead of investing hundreds of $1000s in advertising or conferences, strategic online marketing is enabling tiny start-ups and boutique mom and pops to level the playing field all over again. I know. We do it for our clients.

In Advertising Age this week, How Tiny Startups Like Hello and 800Razors are Stealing Share from CPG Giants Jack Neff talks about the New Model: “The democratizing effect of social media and the impact of e-commerce likely play a role in smaller players gaining ground….The smaller the players, the bigger the impact: Companies with sales of less than $100 million gained the most and the share shift accelerated over time.”

Today, it’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, that can be combined as the great equalizers.

New York Times Tests a New Twitter Feature ~ Content Marketers Win

If Content Marketing is King, speedy Tweeting of content is Czar. The New York Times (@nytimes) is testing a new feature that

highlights quotes and sentences within a story, and in one click turns those sentences into Tweets.

The New York Times experienced over an 1100% increase (yes, that is correct)

Imagine if you could encourage your website visitors to tweet gems (and give your site credit.)
The tool is called ‘Save Publishing’, an Open Source bookmarklet by Paul Ford. It enables your website visitors to highlight content and tweet exactly that, along with a link to the website. You simply add a snippet of code to your web page to make this magic happen.

Fascinating. The half-life of a Pinterest pin is 1000 times longer than your tweet or FB post.Long tail Pinterest How do we know? An interview between VentureBeat and Piqora reveals that there are similarities between Google and Pinterest: “In the world of Google, 70 percent of searches are long-tail, composed of
four or more words,” Verma says. “Our hypothesis is that the same thing is happening on Pinterest …
searching and Pinterest categories resurface the old pins.”

That’s right. Tweets are measured in minutes. FB posts evaporate from your Newsfeed in just a couple of
hours. But Pins live on for 30 days or more.
